About Sanyo eneloop Batteries
The Sanyo eneloop is a low self-discharge nickel-metal hydride battery, which was originally introduced in November 2005. This kind of battery reduces self-discharge and, therefore, lengthens shelf life compared to normal NiMH batteries. By using improved separator and improved positive electrode, manufacturers claim the batteries retain 70 to 85% of their capacity after one year when stored at 20°C (68°F), while standard NiMH batteries may lose half their charge in this time period.

Why eneloop?
There are several reasons for using Sanyo eneloop batteries over traditional alkaline batteries, or even conventional NiMH rechargeable batteries. Some of these include:
Low Self Discharge
The most common complaint about rechargeable batteries is that they are often out-of-charge when you need them. A traditional fully charged AA rechargeable battery will lose 30% of charge in 6 months, 50% in 12 months and 100% in 24 months. By comparison a AA eneloop battery will only lose 10% of charge in 6 months, 15% in 12 months and 20% in 24 months. This means that they will always be charged when you need them.
Easy to use
Because of its very low self-discharge rate SANYO can ship eneloop batteries to retailers fully charged. When you buy an eneloop battery you can use it straight away which makes it as user friendly as an old fashioned disposable battery.
Better Performance
eneloop batteries have excellent performance, generally out performing normal alkaline batteries and rechargeable batteries. For example in a recent digital camera test the Sanyo eneloop took 514 shots, whereas the Sanyo dry-cell battery could only manage 117 shots.
Environmental Benefits
The environmental benefit of rechargeable batteries is well knows, however the eneloop takes things further, buy allowing 1500 recharge cycles. The fact they don’t lose their charge also saves electricity because you don’t need to keep topping them up if not used.
Cost Savings
You can re-use a SANYO eneloop battery up to 1500 times. Try comparing the cost of an eneloop battery and charger with 1500 alkaline batteries!
Old eneloop vs New eneloop
There are several differences between the old eneloop batteries and the new eneloop batteries. Here we outline the benefits between the old and new types:
- An extra 500 recharge cycles – the new eneloop can be recharged up to 1500 compared to 1000 for the old version.
- Improved self-discharge – even if the old battery was good the new one loses even less charge, particularly during the 12 and 24 month storage period.
- Cold temperature performance – the new Sanyo eneloop can be used down to -20°C as opposed to -10°C for the old eneloop.
- More environmentally friendly – as well as lower self-discharge all new eneloop batteries are pre-charged using solar energy in Japan.
For all these great reasons you should definitely consider SANYO eneloop batteries for all your electronic devices.
